What We Actually Do About Sustainable Packaging

I've been in this factory for 12 years. Started on the injection molding floor, now I'm the one talking to brands about how we make things. Sustainability wasn't a thing we talked about a decade ago-we just tried to waste less because it saved money. Funny how that works.

Last year, a Japanese client asked if we could make their lip gloss tube out of recycled material. Not because they wanted a marketing story-their home market started requiring it. We didn't have a good PCR solution at the time. Took us four months and three failed batches to get the clarity right. The first two came out cloudy. The third had inconsistent wall thickness because the recycled pellets flowed differently. We finally figured out we needed to run it slower, adjust the temperature profile, and blend it with virgin material at a specific ratio. They now sell that tube in Tokyo department stores. Nobody sees the messy part, but that's the part we actually learned from.
